Can you translate a foreign driver's license for use in Japan?

Translation itself is possible, but our translations may not be accepted for driver's license conversion procedures in Japan (gaimen kirikae).

If you are proceeding with license conversion, Japanese road traffic law requires you to obtain the translation from one of the following designated organizations:

・The licensing authority of the issuing country, or its embassy or consulate in Japan

・Japan Automobile Federation (JAF)

・Zipplus Co., Ltd.

・Association for Supporting Foreign Drivers in Japan (ALADDIN)

・Taiwan-Japan Relations Association (for Taiwanese licenses)

・German Automobile Association (for German licenses)
